It was just a short stay but a worthy one as well. Prague is simply put beautiful. Yesterday someone asked me if I can compare it to London . I cannot. It is nothing like London at all. First off Prague has a big culture of drinking coffee and sitting outside on specially built patios on pedestrian walkways, a thing that is difficult to find in London, as almost every street has car access. The traffic in Prague is barely there, bridges are completely different and houses are much wider and lower than they are in London. When it comes to food, European cuisine prevails. In many ways it is more similar to Zagreb than any other place I have been to, although Prague is much more colourful then the grey Zagreb. The service in Prague is sublime. People are happy to serve you and all of them speak very good English. Finding a good traditional restaurant in Prague was hard. As all places go, it is a tourist attraction so most of the times you can’t really judge its quality. I am sure there are amazing restaurants outside of Prague, but we got our recommendation from the concierge at Radisson blu to visit a restaurant called Savarin just right of the square. As we were waiting for our room to be ready we had a bite to eat so I cannot say we choose the best but we were very tired so our appetites were quite low.
I chose to stay in Radisson Blu for their amazing reputation and attentiveness. Because the theme of my trip was ”RoMANce” I have specially ordered some flowers for Charles to wait for him when we get to the room. Everyone in the hotel was really hush-hush about it and never mentioned it in front of him which I must admit, was scared about.
– ‘’Miss Dvornik?’’ – Dominic was standing at the reception desk and called me over to the side as Charles left to the lobby bar to get some coffee – ‘’I would just like to say that the flowers and the champagne are ready for you, and as soon as our inspection is done inspecting your room, we will be bringing them up so they are ready for you when you enter the room. Also, because we have made you wait for the room we decided to upgrade you to our suite with a view of the castle so your surprise is even more romantic and to apologise for the wait as we are sure you are tired’’. I thanked Dominic as the customer relationship manager Zbysek walked over to me and introduced himself. –‘’ Miss Dvornik, it is a pleasure to have you staying with us, and should there be any problems please do not hesitate to find me, we will tend to your needs’’ – I shook his hand, he had a firm grip and thanked him for helping me make this arrangement. Afterwards I also found out that his origin from his mother’s side is Split, which is where my parents are from. I just can’t escape Croatians.
Later on he took us to the room –‘’ I Always wanted to go to Croatia, I heard they have great hospitality and tourism university there which I would love to go to’’- he added, as we were riding up with the elevator to the 8th floor. He walked us through the hallway to the room and opened the door. There it was, just sitting on the table the flower arrangement I ordered for Charles.
Dozen roses with lily in the middle with a nice rose brut cooling next to it. –‘’OH, nice!’’ – Charles said as he walked in and took a stroll through the room. The manager gave me the key and the concierge brought our bags inside. –‘’Do you wish for me to explain the amenities of the room miss Dvornik?- Zbysek asked –‘’I think we are fine’’- I added –‘’Thank you once again for your help’’. I pointed out the flowers to Charles, he thought they were just a decoration in the room, so he was very happy when he realised they were for him. We took a look around the room. The room was beautiful, spacey and had a nice view. That day the sky was a bit gloomy but it was perfect. The bathroom was really lovely; big bath, shower cabin and separate sinks. We always need separate sinks because ladies, you know how our sinks look, men cannot stand it. Next to the bed there was a vanity table and a cupboard with a mini-bar and snacks. Bed was king sized with nice mirrors around it and a big tv screen just in front of it. A small lounge area just as you enter the room under the roof windows. The whole décor is art deco, with loads of light coming through. Next to the TV, I discovered a secret cabinet, well it’s not secret really, but it was for me. Surprise, surprise a NESpresso machine. All together it is a really nice cosy room, so if you are thinking of booking Radisson Alcron in Prague, this room would be my recommendation. We had to change quickly before going out to my next surprise, romantic dinner in a public park, about which you can read here. I made it as a separate post so this one is not too long. When we came back from the dinner to our room, all loved up there was a surprise for us in the room. Zbysek felt like a part of our romantic trip and wanted to contribute by sending us a chocolate dessert with their signature Alcron labelled prosecco, which was very nice indeed, better than the rose brut we had before.
In the morning we missed breakfast. That spray sure worked but that was fine because we had a lunch reservation in their Michelin stared restaurant Alcron. We dressed up according to the dress code and were seated immediately.
Main chef came to greet us. His name is Roman, he was very curious about my blog so I explained to him, why I have a camera mounted on my head. The courses have started and so did the wine paring. We had a wide choice of breads with many different types of butters. Yuzu butter, chilli butter, seaweed butter and smoked sea salt butter.
That was followed by their signature sashimi.
We chose our starters by recommendation of the waiter. I started with ‘’Hostin’’ green asparagus with celeriac and liquorice and Charles had Ceviche of Scottish diver scallops with apples and hazelnuts.
They were sublime. I don’t think I have ever tasted such a fine combination of tastes. Charles is not a fan of scallops, but having more experience in fine dining he knew that if the chef is good it would be amazing, and it was. I could see him trying to hold back the speed as he was eating. Our starters were paired nicely with Czech white wines. For the next course I chose gnocchi with truffles and Charles had a venison.
Gnocchi are usually my favourite choice as Italian culture is quite close to Croatian and it has been a while since I have tasted something as good as this. Roman filled Gnocchi with the truffles and laid them in a fluffy truffle sauce In a hot plate. This is by far the best thing I have ever ate in my life. I have, and I repeat never tasted anything like it before. This course has been touched by god himself. It was so good we decided to have another hot course because we just wanted to taste something else that this amazing chef makes. My third course was Asparagus risotto with an egg yolk on top. Again a very fine dish, prepared to perfection.
This is as far as my appetite usually goes. The portions were small, as they tend to be in fine dining, but a perfect measurement so you don’t feel so full you hate everything you ate. It leaves you wanting more, and tasting more which is very important to me, as I usually consider myself to be ‘’hungry for taste’’. Dessert time was here and I went with a classic Chocolate fondant and Charles chose lemon tart.
I am ashamed to admit I have enjoyed my fondant so much I haven’t even tried the lemon tart, although I can imagine it was amazing as most things are in this fine restaurant. We left happy and just full enough to continue exploring Prague and all the nice things it has to offer. After exploring Prague that afternoon we returned to Radisson, I was meeting a friend that currently lives in Prague in their famous Be Bop bar, known for some pretty crazy cocktails and installations. Previous day we met their barman Thomas who was absent for a competition but we were very well taken care of by Jan who was the barman that day. I asked him to serve us their ‘’crazy cocktails’’ all night and here is what he made for us.
We were all impressed by the creativity of these drinks. A reason why this hotel is great for businessman is because you have everything right here. If you are having a stopover or just staying for the day, Alcron offers you everything. Nice rooms, AMAZING food choice, imaginative cocktails and attentive staff. There is absolutely nothing missing in this beautiful hotel. It is such a great choice that I doubt I could have made a better one. They made our stay like staying in heaven, and have left a mark on our trip to Prague. Next day, it was check out time. We checked out at 12pm and ventured out to see the rest of Prague. Overall experience was great, would highly recommend you to stay in Alcron next time you are visiting Prague. Don’t forget to say Hi to Thomas and Jan at Be Bop bar and meet Zbysek who will make your stay as perfect as it can be. Their reputation is to the point and I have never experienced a service as amazing as theirs. This hotel is number 1 in my top 3.
