I chose to eat here because of the apparent breathtaking view. Honestly it was dark and all I could see were little glimpses of Ipanema. I couldn’t even take a proper photo because the reflection on the window of the inside was too strong.
We were greeted by a nice lady that took us to the table, and handed us menus. The menu was quite limited but the food seemed interesting. I trusted the cook as he was proper French and knew what he was doing.
We ordered some nice Rose wine , and the waiter very quickly brought some butter, tomato and crunchy flat bread. One thing left us confused. He brought the wine but didn’t open it, so we had to ask him which was quite strange. Maybe he had a hangover?
I ordered the Rack of Lamb with goat cheese tart and Charlie ordered a steak. Typical.
We waited and waited… the people who came before us got served already. It has been an hour since we have ordered. We had some theories that maybe they messed it up in the kitchen because it was not busy at all and other people were already eating. The waiter came over with the complimentary soup from the chef. It was a muscle soup. It was really dark in the restaurant so I wasn’t able to make good pictures of the food, but I tried just to show you.
I am not big fan of shell seafood but I will admit this was quite tasty and not too thick. Still I was wondering …. where is my main?
20 minutes later the food finally arrives. I was already tipsy from the wine.
As lamb usually is…dry and I didn’t really enjoy the cheese tart. I’m not really sure I made the right food choice. I will not blame the chef for it, but for my taste this didn’t really excite me. Maybe because, after an hour and twenty minutes I was so hungry for taste, that this boring choice of meat did not rock my boat.
The steak also came, which looked much better. I didn’t try it but Charlie said it was ok. I was taking photos and people were looking at me. Charlie made it clear he was feeling a bit embarrassed by my foodoshoot. But what can I do, I need to!
After we finished our mains, I really wanted to make some space for the dessert. So I ordered a chocolate dessert with strawberry ice cream. I think this was the best thing I ordered that night. I was so full , I couldn’t finish it. The chocolate was a heavy cream and It just couldn’t find a place to fit it in. But any other day I’d be all over it!
I munched on the strawberries for a little while, before asking for the bill. And we left.
So to finish it all up. The food was so-so. I wasn’t really impressed and neither was Charlie. We left in disappointment, without any view photos. I would suggest this place for some type of nice lunch, during the day so you can glance at the occasional view. Be prepared to pay up as it is not cheap. Don’t expect it to be great just because it is in a great location, I am sure there are some much more attractive places with better food, but I didn’t try the whole menu so I can’t really judge properly about it. Two dishes don’t make a chef, so make sure you visit it and make your own decision.
